Twin Extruder - Supersceded Single Extruder - Supersceded! |
| Single Verses Double Extruder | ||
| Twin Extruder By choosing the dual extrusion option, you'll be able to print with two different colors at the same time. MakerBot Dualstrusion™ unlocks the ability to make beautiful combinations of colors and opens the door to experimenting with multi-material objects. For example, you could have ABS in one extruder (for your model) and PLA in the other (for support material). Why would you want to do that? Because you can then pop your model into a caustic soda bath and simply dissolve the support material! Or even better PVA which is water soluble! This will open up the printing possibilities to print far more intricate models. |
Single Extruder Choosing a single extruder makes the machine cheaper for those wanting to explore the power of the MakerBot Replicator™ on a budget; and yes you can Upgrading later from single to twin extruder later. We are working with Makerbot on this kit at the moment (Sep 2012). We estimate this kit will be around $250. It will be a little involved to put on, so it is not for the non-mechanically minded! | |

Other printers have dual extruders, but not simultanious extrution. This will change the use of support material dramatically! |
